TIPPERARY HAVE named a strong side to face Dublin in Sunday afternoon’s NHL match in Parnell Park. It shows a couple of changes from the side named to play Kilkenny in the twice-postponed match scheduled for Thurles last Saturday and Tuesday.
Darren Gleeson gets a run in goal with Brendan Cummins rested and Declan Fanning makes way for the return of Conor O’Mahony in the half-back line. All Star Lar Corbett comes in at left corner forward for Micheál Webster with Eoin Kelly moving to full forward.
Meanwhile, Cork give a league debut to Michael Cussen, naming the big Sarsfields man at full forward for tomorrow evening’s match with Limerick at the Gaelic Grounds.
Waterford have rotated goalkeepers for the trip to Galway with the highly-rated Aidan Power getting an outing in place of Clinton Hennessy who played in the big win over Dublin last week.
Elsewhere, Tír Conaill Harps GAA club in Glasgow is to ask Strathclyde Police to investigate the burning of its minibus as a racist incident. The 17-seat Renault and thousands of pounds worth of sporting equipment were burned beyond use after the attack, which took place in Glentanar Road, Lambhill, at around 2.30am last Monday.
The minibus was parked outside the yard of North Area Community Transport, where a club volunteer was to sit a minibus driving test later that morning.
Club officials estimate some £3,000 worth of sports equipment, including hurling helmets, sticks and sliothars, was destroyed. A DVD and audio system on the minibus also went up in flames. A compressed gas cylinder was found in the wreckage.
There appeared to have been no attempt to remove kit from the minibus before it was set on fire.
A club spokesperson said: “We will be asking the police to investigate this attack upon our minibus as a racist incident. If the police can provide us with another motive I’d be delighted to hear about it.”
