McGrath Cup Tipperary 2-9 Cork 1-9:Two goals early in the second-half helped Tipperary shock the McGrath Cup holders and record a fully deserved quarter-final victory at Pairc Ui Rinn yesterday.
Cork introduced Pearse O’Neill, Aidan Walsh and Paul Kerrigan at half-time in an attempt to reverse the trend after Tipperary dominated the opening period to lead 0-7 to 0-4 at the interval.
Captain Paddy Codd was inspirational at full back for a hard-working Tipperary side which frustrated Cork by pulling a whole pile of players behind the ball when not in possession, and 12 home wides didn’t help either.
Next up . . .In the semi-finals next weekend (details to be announced). Kerry will host Limerick, while Tipperary will host Waterford.
