Tipperary 1-12 Waterford 2-8 (after extra time):Tipperary have agreed to a request from Kerry to play the McGrath Cup final between the counties next Saturday.
Tipp came through a stern test of their credentials against Waterford yesterday.
They responded to two Waterford goals at crucial times. A dour encounter sparked into life eight minutes from the end when Paul Whyte netted for the visitors.
But Tipp forced extra time when Brian Fox fisted over the crossbar to tie the scores at 0-10 to 1-7.
Liam O’Lionain’s goal in the final minute of the first period of extra-time had Waterford in control again but Tipp’s leading marksman Barry Grogan, scorer of 1-6, had a pivotal say in the 83rd minute, palming the ball into the net.
