US TOUR: David Toms continued his career climb yesterday claiming this third US PGA Tour title of the season and second in a row at the Michelob Championship.
Toms shot a three-under-par 68 at Kingsmill Resort to hold off Kirk Triplett by a stroke and become the fourth player to win the event in consecutive seasons since it started in 1968.
A three-and-a-half-foot putt at the 18th hole gave Toms a 72-hole total of 15-under 269 - for his third title since May, his seventh in the past three years and the eight of his career.
Only Tiger Woods, with five, has as many titles this year as Toms, who has moved into the top 10 I the world rankings and has made a career-high $3,143,635.
Toms is third on the money list behind Woods and Phil Mickelson - the world's top two players. He made $5.6 million in his first eight-plus seasons on the PGA Tour.
Triplett matched the low round of the day with a 65 and finished alone in second at 14-under 270. Charles Howell and Esteban Toledo of Mexico tied at 271.
SENIORS TOUR: Jamaica's Delroy Cambridge became the fifth first-time winner on this season's European Seniors Tour when he closed with a two-under-par 69 to win the £24,310 sterling first prize at the Tournament of Champions at Mere Golf and Country Club, near Manchester. Northern Ireland's Paul Leonard produced a battling 69 to finish in sixth.
