RACING:THE CO Meath-born jockey Peter Toole remained in a medically induced coma in hospital in Liverpool yesterday after his fall at Aintree races on Saturday.
The 22-year-old rider suffered bleeding on the right side of his brain when 100 to 1 shot Classic Fly fell at the first fence during the Maghull Novices’ Chase.
He was taken to Fazakerley Hospital, near Aintree, but was later transferred to the neighbouring Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
It is hoped he will be brought round following a CT scan.
“They won’t wake him up until they have done the scan so there’s no change as it stands,” trainer Charlie Mann, who Toole rides for, said yesterday.
Toole has ridden 30 winners this season
The Group One Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh on June 25th will be sponsored for the next two years by the Dublin Port-based transport company Stobart Ireland.
The 10-furlong event, run on the Saturday of the Irish Derby weekend, will be worth €200,000.
