NOT MUCH to be said about Avoca's 9-0 win over St Brendan's/Phoenix Park except welcome back Phillip Sarratt.

Sarratt's flirtation with life without training and practice seems to have had some benefits, as his two-goal haul suggests.

The young and exciting Enda Gallanagh, a disciple of the more traditional approach to training and physical fitness, also bagged two with Trevor Dagg's hat-trick adding up to a pleasing weekend for the Blackrock club, who remain top of the Leinster Senior League.

Avoca's nearest rivals, Three Rock Rovers, kept up the pressure as they netted a healthy five against struggling YMCA. Missing, eight from their squad, Rovers younger players are clearly coming into the picture.

Another to score for Rovers was Matthias Benchman, their German mastermind who has recommended Sunday morning recovery runs for his team, perhaps not full understanding the magnitude of the cultural shift he is asking.

Christian Judd Robin Madeley, Gary Ringwood and Liam Canning (rather modestly by his standards) also contributed a goal each with Mark Vincent hitting the only reply for YMCA.

Further down the table Corinthians' leaky defence seems to be causing them all sorts of problems. Still they kept away from the danger area with a 2-2 draw with Railway Union. Karl Swan claimed both of Railway's goals with Colin Stuart and Wesley Rothwell netting two for Corinthians.

Corinthians are the fourth highest scorers in the league with 22 goals from 10 matches but second to bottom-placed St Brendan's (32) with 30 goals conceded.

Compared to Rovers who are scoring a remarkable 4.3 goals a game and Avoca, who are netting 3.7 per match, the standards are clearly there to be seen.
