Seve Ballesteros, who kept Padraig Harrington under scrutiny at the K Club last week, will be able to watch every shot as Sam Torrance and Paul Broadhurst make their last attempt to grab a Ryder Cup place this week.

Torrance, a member of the last eight sides, needs a top two finish in the BMW International in Munich, starting tomorrow, to have a chance of an automatic spot, Broadhurst who won his only two games in 1991, needs a top three.

The draw for the final qualifying event sees Ballesteros paired with the two in the first and second rounds.

Europe's captain specifically asked to play with Cup candidate Harrington in last week's European Open - the Dubliner came only 50th and now needs a top seven finish to have any hope of a debut next month - but did not make the same request this time.

Tournament director Mike Stewart said yesterday: "All Seve asked for this week was that all the main players in contention for places be grouped together and put himself with two of them."

Harrington, now 12th in the table, will play with ninth-placed Thomas Bjorn and 17th-placed Mark James, while Jose-Maria Olazabal, who moved up to 11th by coming third in Ireland, partners Joakim Haeggman (14th) and Roger Chapman (15th).

James, Haeggman and Chapman would all need to finish second to overtake Olazabal - and that is assuming the Spaniard misses the cut.

Ballesteros names his two wild cards on Sunday afternoon and if Olazabal does not require one they are expected to go to Nick Faldo and Jesper Parnevik.
