The last minute arrival of Les Ferdinand (pictured) has probably bought manager Gerry Francis a little time with the Premiership's most downtrodden fans but he must achieve something of substance this year if they are not to start pushing for his removal between this and next summer.
The signing of David Ginola will also help, although Sol Campbell's decision to stay is probably a more important morale booster than either of the summer purchases. If Chris Armstrong strikes up a profitable relationship with Ferdinand, Ian Walker manages to reproduce his form of the season before last and at least a reasonable percentage of the team remains fit, then things should take a turn for the better at White Hart Lane, where a cup may not even be out of the question.
