Frenchman Nicolas Touzaint, who rode Galan de Sauvagere to victory in the six-year-old class at Le Lion d'Angers 12 months ago, triumphed in the world young horse three-day event championships with the same horse and at the same venue yesterday after producing immaculate clear rounds both across country and in the showjumping with the Selle Francais gelding. It was his fourth international win in four outings with the grey.

Touzaint also finished third in the six-year-old class with Hildago de l'Ile behind compatriots Karim Laghouag (Histoire de Triballe) and Jean Jacques Boisson (Hadji des Gats). The combined results of the two classes also meant that the Selle Francais stayed at the top of the studbook rankings, with the Irish sport horses holding on for second place, just under 30 penalties adrift at the finish.

Becky George finished best of the Irish in the seven-year-old CCI, emulating the winner by completing on an untarnished dressage score for seventh place overall with Wee Hot Toddy.

Wee Hot Toddy's placing, plus British rider Jeanette Brakewell's fourth in the CCI with the Irish stallion McGuigan, was tied in with CiarβGlynn's brilliant move up the six-year-old rankings to eventual eighth with the Master Imp mare Wrens Nest to produce the Irish sport horse result.
