Scotland outhalf Gregor Townsend could be set for a return to Six Nations action in the Calcutta Cup.
The Castres half-back suffered a knee injury just minutes into the opening game of the tournament in Paris, and it was feared he would miss the rest of the competition.
But Townsend has made excellent progress and, although he rates himself as doubtful for the England game on March 3rd, he could find himself in contention for the match at Twickenham.
"Gregor was examined by a knee surgeon in Toulouse and should he continue to make progress in his rehabilitation he has been told he will be able to resume full training next Monday," said an SRU spokesman.
Meanwhile, Scotland international Kenny Logan has admitted he expects to be sacked as goalkicker for the team.
But the Wasps man insists he will be ready to answer the call from Scotland coach Ian McGeechan at Twickenham.
"I am certain Duncan Hodge will get the job at Twickenham and I'll support him as strongly as he supported me," said Logan. "But if Geech tells me to keep doing it then I will."
London Irish crushed bottom club Rotherham 54-11 in the Zurich Premiership last night. Outhalf Barry Everitt contributed six conversions and four penalties to the total.
