TRAFFORD LAD takes the next step on the chasing ladder as he turns out at Punchestown today.
The six-year-old faces seven rivals, with stablemate Quintana also taking his chance along with recent winners Parsons Pistol, Rebel Chief, Siegemaster and Window Of Hope.
Trafford Lad was a Grade One winner over hurdles for Dusty Sheehy last term, and also ran well at the Cheltenham and Punchestown festivals to finish third on a further two occasions at the highest level.
He also made a winning start to his fencing career at Punchestown last time, although he was awarded the race in the stewards' room after first-past-the-post Rare Bob impeded his challenge on the run to the line.
Sheehy steps Trafford Lad up in class again for the Grade Three A Space Cabins Florida Pearl Novice Chase, and he will also move back up in trip to two miles and six furlongs.
"He's fit and well and we're expecting a good run from him," said Sheehy. "The step back up in trip will definitely suit him and he has schooled well a couple of times since he last ran.
"The two miles and two furlongs last time was short enough for him, but the run has probably just sharpened him up a bit."
Trafford Lad could be set for another leap in class if he puts up a satisfactory performance today with the Grade One Bar-One Racing Drinmore Novice Chase at Fairyhouse on November 30th on the agenda.
