In these times of plenty, it seemed natural for Trinity and UCD to indulge in probably the highest scoring men's colours match in the history of the event at Belfield yesterday. Trinity, though going two goals down at the start, eventually justified their first-division standing.
Gareth O'Meara nipped in twice to give UCD their surprise lead, but Ross Cullen replied following a short corner and then delivered a centre for Paul Tuttle to make it 2-2. Christian Judd edged Trinity ahead and Roly Budd added another before Mark Treacy scored direct from a set-piece to leave it 4-3 at the interval.
O'Meara completed his hat-trick to make it 4-4 but as UCD tired, Gareth Hinds set up Cullen to put Trinity back in front. Finally, Hinds forced a penalty stroke and Judd sealed victory.
