Trinity had their expected win in the senior one eights at Cork City regatta on Saturday - but found it unexpectedly difficult. The college crew, weakened through absences, partly because of exams, had to produce a storming last 500 metres in an exciting race to see off the challenge of a UCC/Shandon composite. Trinity won by only a couple of feet.
It was a good day for the students, who also won the men's senior one coxed fours and the women's senior one eights.
One of the best races of the day was the men's junior 18 A eights. Portora beat St Michael's into second place by one third of a length.
Fermoy's regatta yesterday proved an exceptional one for the young rowers from the Carlow club. They carried off a number of the top honours, including the novice eights.
