Turner's prize

Niall Turner has been hitting all the right shots on the golf course recently

Niall Turner has been hitting all the right shots on the golf course recently. The 16-year-old became the youngest member to win the club championship at his home club, Muskerry, and then followed up by leading his school, Presentation College Cork, to victory in the South Munster section of the Golf Foundation Schools' competition.

Now playing off a five handicap, Turner covered the Monkstown course in one over par 71 while Craig Conway (81), and James Ahern (83), helped Pres to a two-shot win over CBC with St Augustine's back in third place. In the North Munster section, 13-year-old Cian McNamara returned a best of the day 75 over the Ballyclough course in Limerick, but it was not enough to lift Crescent College into the play-offs. The qualifiers were St Flannan's, Ennis, whose team of John McInerney, with 76, Paul Enright (78) and Steve Loftus (79) finished two clear of Cistercian College, Roscrea.
