Betty Aylward, a 28-handicap member of Slade Valley, achieved an amazing double last week when she holed in one at her home course on Tuesday and also in an Open Fourball at Black Bush on Thursday. Betty used a six iron at the 13th in Slade Valley, which she also aced a few years ago. She broke the good news to her sister-in-law and fourball partner Pat Carberry (Howth) before they teed off in the Black Bush Open on Thursday and on the fourth hole she showed that it wasn't all talk as she holed out again with a nine iron.
She didn't feature in the main prizes in either case but Black Bush presented her with a beautiful crystal trophy to mark a very rare double.
