NFL DIVISION TWO Tyrone 2-11 Westmeath 0-8:TYRONE MOVED to within touching distance of promotion with another triumphant display that stretched their unbeaten run to four games.
But manager Mickey Harte still had reservations about their performance. “For the number of chances we created, we weren’t converting enough of them. We’d need to be more efficient around the goals,” said Harte.
“So there’s some degree of complacency, there’s some degree of just not pushing on that you would like to see when you’re in that position. When you’re in the ascendancy like that, you should be making better use of it.”
Kyle Coney steered over three superb points as Tyrone took an early grip on the game. They led 0-5 to 0-0 after 21 minutes and it was scant reward for their superiority.
Pat Flanagan introduced Denis Glennon from the bench after just 23 minutes, and the Tyrrellspass star was easily his side’s best attacker, hitting their opening point on his way to a 0-3 tally.
But Tyrone took a firm grip on the contest, when Paddy McNeice won the penalty which Harte blasted home. They led by 1-6 to 0-2 at half-time, and a Martin Penrose goal 20 seconds after the restart, followed by points from Owen Mulligan and Penrose, opened out a 12 points lead.
Tyrone eased off, scoring just three points in the final 30 minutes, while Westmeath added points from Ronan Foley, Ger Egan and the Glennon brothers.
