MUNSTER SFC FIRST ROUND: UCC 1-19 Monaleen 2-15 (AET – 1-15 to 2-12 after normal time)UNFANCIED MONALEEN pushed UCC all the way to the wire in a dramatic clash in Cloughduv yesterday.

Indeed, it took a long-range free from Jamie O’Sullivan in the third minute of injury-time to force extra-time after Monaleen corner back Darren Burke toe-poked in what seemed to be the winning goal just seconds before.

It left the sides tied at 2-12 to 1-15, but the students edged in front again in the first half of additional time – Paul Geaney, Gavin O’Grady and O’Sullivan helping them to a 1-19 to 2-14 lead at the break.

A Muiris Gavin free after 74 minutes was the only score in the second half of extra-time as College ran down the clock impressively.

In normal time Monaleen led by 1-3 to 0-5 at the interval, Luke Kavanagh goaling in the 15th minute before O’Grady cancelled it out two minutes after the resumption which kick-started a brilliant second half.
