UCD - 1 Drogheda - 0:National League: Robbie Griffin's rich vein of form continued last night as he scored the only goal of the game to give bottom-of-the-table UCD a priceless win over Drogheda United at Belfield Park.
Griffin, a makeshift striker, struck for his fourth goal in his last three games to give the Students what was only their second league win of the season. The striker's winner last night will be a massive boost to College as they made it four league games without defeat, following draws with Shelbourne, Derry and Waterford.
The only goal of the game came in the 38th minute when Griffin caught the Drogheda defence asleep to break clear and drill his shot past Gary Rodgers.
Having put UCD ahead, Griffin could have doubled that lead a minute before the break only to see Rodgers deny him.
Substitute Alan Gallen should have made it 2-0 in the 90th minute but fired wide, although Drogheda could easily have snatched a dramatic last-minute equaliser themselves but Che Bunce saw his header cleared off the line by Darragh Ryan in injury time.
