Dundalk 1 UCD 2:UCD's Connor Sammon fired the students into the quarter-finals of the Ford FAI Cup with a last-minute winner against Dundalk in Oriel Park last night.

A Robbie Doyle goal midway through the half sparked Dundalk into life and it was a cruel blow to the home crowd when Sammon headed home Derek Doyle's centre in the final minute.

UCD made the most of their early dominance as Shane Fitzgerald whipped a cross to Derek Doyle, who smashed a header past Neil Gallagher.

Doyle, five minutes later, unleashed a 25-yard half-volley but his effort bounced off the crossbar. Dundalk's Robbie Doyle went close for an equaliser with a header just before the break but UCD should have had a penalty when David Crawley appeared to handle the ball but referee Damian Hancock missed the incident.

The second half was a different story as John Gill's men stormed back. Just past the hour they equalised when Robbie Doyle drilled past Darren Quigley after the Irish under-21 man failed to hold Philip Hughes's drive.

Doyle was suddenly everywhere and it was from his reverse pass that Paul Smyth sprinted clear of the UCD defence but the winger dragged his effort past Quigley's post. However, it was Pete Mahon's men who would have the tie's decisive say late on.
