A CROWD of only 1,500 turned up to see Ulster and Munster finish level even after extra time in a riveting interprovincial semifinal at Clones yesterday. In the process the sides produced a magnificent game of football.

Ulster seemed headed for victory when they led by two points with just three remaining in the second period of extra time. Then Brian Burke, following a brilliant"" run and pass by Sean Burke, crashed the ball to the net to put Munster a point ahead. However, Ronan Carolan rose to the occasion, sending over the equaliser from a 50-yard free to ensure a replay.

There was just as much excitement at the end of normal play when the teams were locked together on 1-13 to Ulster's 0-16. Seamus Downey kicked the equalising point in the fourth minute of injury time, and this cancelled out a superb point by Francis MeInerney, which had looked like being enough for, Munster.

The sides were level six times in the first half, at the end of which Munster led by 1-8 to 0-9, with midfielder Derry Foley scoring the goal.

Peter Canavan was the chief marksman, scoring nine points for Ulster, before going off with a suspected broken finger. Kieran McKeever, Tony Scullion, D J Kane and Kieran MeGeeney, who was superb at centre back, were outstanding in the Ulster defence. Munster's defence was shored up Mark O'Connor, Sean Burke and Kieran O'Mahony.

Wicklow did enough work in the opening half to beat Dublin by 1-9 to 1-4 and claim their second Leinster Vocational Schools senior football title in three years at Newbridge on Saturday.
