The Irish under-16 hockey team gave themselves an outside chance of pipping England to the Home Nations' title in Dundee yesterday when they beat hosts Scotland 2-0 in their second match of the tournament.

Short corner strikes from Kelly Whelan (Ursuline Thurles) and Jan McGowan (Coleraine High), in the 15th and 31st minutes, capped an excellent display by the team who must now beat Wales today and hope that Scotland beat England if they are to have a chance of finishing top of the table. The under-18 team were beaten 2-0 by Scotland.
