A church leader has praised Manchester United's decision to delay the kick-off of their Good Friday match against Liverpool at Old Trafford. Religious groups objected to the original 3 p.m. start for the April 10th fixture because that is the time they commemorate Christ's death on the cross.
United took note of their feelings and agreed to put the kick-off of the game, which is being broadcast live by Sky Sports, back 30 minutes to 3.30 p.m.
Canon Paul Denby of Manchester Cathedral welcomed the move and thanked United for their understanding.
"We can honestly say that we are not surprised because Manchester United are sensitive to the needs of the community," he said.
United moved the start time after consulting Liverpool, the police and Sky Sports. Liverpool backed the move and told United that they were willing to agree to a new kick-off time.
