UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Inter Milan 1 FC Twente 0:INTER MILAN coach Rafael Benitez could breathe a sigh of relief after Esteban Cambiasso's lucky strike sent the holders into the Champions League last 16 with an edgy win last night.
Wesley Sneijder’s free kick was deflected into the path of Cambiasso, who fired home on 55 minutes.
The hosts wasted two chances to make the game safe and were clinging on at the end after Denny Landzaat hit the bar.
Benitez made a slight tactical tweak, shifting Samuel Eto’o to the wing and playing Goran Pandev up the middle with Sneijder much further forward than usual. Sneijder came closest in the first half when he rattled the bar with a free kick on 17 minutes before Pandev shot straight at the goalkeeper when well placed.
Home goalkeeper Luca Castellazzi superbly saved a thunderbolt drive from midfielder Theo Janssen and soon after Nacer Chadli dinked wide when clear.
Benitez could do little to change things in the second half with four youth team players on the bench.
