Arsenal's Patrick Vieira last night acknowledged things were wide open in Champions League Group B after the fourth round of matches in the second phase.

Vieira told ITV: "It's still open. There are still six points left and it's going to be hard - but we'll be prepared for our next home game against Roma."

On last night's contest, he added: "It was frustrating, but I think it was a difficult game for both teams and a draw is good for both.

"We created chances, but didn't score, but they put us under pressure - although we worked really hard."

Vieira had two chances to give Arsenal the points either side of half-time and added: "I should have finished better."

Manager Arsene Wenger was disappointed with the "negative attitude" of the Dutch side, famed for their flowing football.

"We had a lot of the game in the first half and as long as we didn't score they didn't come out.

"They have a tradition of playing, but tonight they had a very negative attitude.

"The second half was more difficult physically for us and the game became a bit flat. But we tried and they were really very tight at the back. Sometimes you score two, three or four goals, and sometimes none."

Meanwhile, Alan Shearer insisted Newcastle still had everything to play for after their comprehensive win over Bayer Leverkusen at St James' Park.

Bobby Robson's men bounced back from three European defeats to record their second successive win and keep alive their hopes of reaching the last eight.

"We needed a victory to keep up our hopes of staying in the competition and it was a good night for us," Shearer said.

"We gave ourselves a mountain to climb (in the first phase) and then gave ourselves another one, but we have come back with the two victories.

"Who knows? But we certainly will not give it up - that's for sure.

"We were determined to give ourselves a chance going to Milan and that is what we have done."

Robson was delighted with the way his men had carried out his plan to to get at the beleaguered German side early: "We went for it. One point was not good enough for us tonight.

"We had to go for a win and we did it."
