FAI CUP QUARTER FINALS Wayside Celtic 1 Bohemians 6: PREMIER DIVISION champions-elect Bohemians kept their Cup and League double hopes very much on target with a comfortable victory over non-league Wayside Celtic in yesterday's one-sided tie at Bray's Carlisle Grounds.
Without ever really moving into top gear, the Dalymount Park side had an easy passage to the semi-finals against the plucky Leinster Senior League outfit after early goals from John Paul Kelly and Jason Byrne had put them on the path to victory.
Bohemians opened their account on 13 minutes when defender Owen Heary's low cross from the right was side-footed home from close range by Kelly.
The visitors stretched their lead six minutes later when Kelly put striker Byrne in the clear and he cooly lobbed the ball over the advancing goalkeeper Robbie O'Dowd into the empty net.
Ian Callaghan twice went close to opening Wayside's account but O'Dowd produced two fine saves to deny Kelly and Mark Rossiter further goals for Bohs before the interval.
Central defender Jason McGuinness headed home Bohemians' third goal from close range on 49 minutes after a Rossiter free on the right caught the Wayside defence all at sea.
Byrne added his second goal three minutes later from the penalty spot after Alan Sharkey had taken down Kelly inside the box.
To their credit, Wayside pulled a goal back on the hour when a free by Wayne Callaghan found his brother Ian unmarked inside the box and the striker made no mistake with a glancing header into the roof of the net.
Bohemians were then fortunate not to concede another goal when a 20-yard free by Ken Simpson flew just over the bar but Neale Fenn put the icing on the cake for Pat Fenlon's team when shooting home from close range after 78 minutes following a cross from substitute Stephen O'Donnell.
Substitute Glen Crowe, piled on further agony for Wayside on 82 minutes when his effort was deflected to the net off Alan Sharkey to complete the rout.
