Club career: The Bradford-born striker began his league career with Doncaster Rovers in the 1973-74 season, going on to make 184 appearances (65 goals) in his four-and-a-half years at the club. Transferred to Stoke City in March 1978 for £35,000, where he was often used as an "emergency" centre-half. Joined Oldham in 1985.

International career: Won under-21 caps before being given his senior debut by John Giles against West Germany in May 1979 (lost 3-1 at Lansdowne Road).
