The third attempt yesterday finally saw the go-ahead for this Leinster Schools' Senior Cup Section A fixture at Westmanstown. Portmarnock's margin of victory was not emphasised until the closing stages when winger David White breached the St Patrick's line following a relentless spell of pressure.
Morgan McKenna converted to add to a penalty a few minutes beforehand to put an end to the resolute St Patrick's stand.
The first half was a well contested affair with the St Patrick's full-back, Jerome Grandgeorge, causing his fair share of problems with some incisive breaks. But Portmarnock prospered, mainly due to some good probing runs from their number eight, Keith Harold. And it was such a thrust by the pack which led to a try by Darren Reagan. St Patrick's, however, kept in contention with a penalty just before the break from Darren McManus.
