A typically sharp and determined display by the Wildcats at the National Basketball Arena last night saw them through to a second successive ESB Women's Cup final. First onto the court for finals weekend but without any sign of nerves, they gradually opened a telling gap on the University of Limerick and by half-time were in absolute control, before closing out the game 78-60.
Still driven by Jillian Hayes, who made her club debut back in 1989 with the under-19 side, the range and ability of scoring was far too much for Limerick to handle. Catriona White, who has been around just as long, is usually white hot or unable to hit the target at all.
Last night White was on fire, hitting seven three-pointers and finished with 27 points. Hayes was close behind on 26.
The Wildcats will now meet the winners of this afternoon's second semi-final between Meteors and Tolka Rovers.
