England outhalf Jonny Wilkinson has been rushed to hospital in Tokyo with an inflamed appendix while on tour with Newcastle Falcons, Japan rugby officials said yesterday.
England's 2003 World Cup hero was hospitalised after complaining of stomach pains and was later diagnosed with an inflamed appendix.
Wilkinson has been put on medication but the Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU) said he could miss today's game against the NEC Green Rockets and the match with Toyota Verblitz on Tuesday.
Wilkinson (26), has been plagued by injuries since he dropped the goal that won England the 2003 World Cup.
The 26-year-old had just recovered from a neck and shoulder injury sustained during the second Lions Test in New Zealand after having missed most of last season.
He also suffered serious shoulder and knee injuries after the World Cup.
