Young Munster are back in the top four of the All-Ireland League having disposed without undue difficulty of the disappointing challenge of Buccaneers in a game played in non stop rain at Clifford Park last night.

Neither side was capable of rising above the extremely difficult conditions but Munster fully deserved their clear-cut victory which sends them to Ballymena on Saturday for a crucial encounter in the very best of spirits.

On the contrary Buccaneers must be dismayed at how poorly they performed having travelled to Limerick on the back of four successive victories which helped to retain their division one status for next season.

However, they were completely unable to reproduce that form against the Young Munster side visibly encouraged by the presence in their ranks of Peter Clohessy and Mike Mullins who contributed handsomely to their cause having shaken off the disappointment of Munster's defeat in Lille last Saturday.

The first 20 minutes contained only a penalty for Young Munster by Mike Lynch but then Buccaneers more or less handed the game to the opposition by having both Colm Rigney and Jimmy Screene yellow carded by referee Tony Redmond in the space of five minutes.

Reduced to six forwards Buccanners conceded another penalty to Lynch who then added the points to a try by second row Colin Power who crashed over following a lineout.

The only score of a drab second half was a penalty by Lynch.
