NEWS ROUND-UP:IRISH INTEREST in top-class international Flat racing is set to continue well into December with Dermot Weld's star Winchester who has been rerouted to a different Grade One target at Hollywood Park.
After finishing down the field in the Breeders' Cup Turf at Santa Anita, Winchester stayed in Los Angeles with a view to running in next weekend's $500,000 Hollywood Derby.
However, Curragh trainer Weld has now decided to switch the Secretariat Stakes winner to the $250,000 Hollywood Turf Cup on December 6th over a mile and a half instead.
Also currently training in Hollywood Park is the Charles O'Brien-trained veteran Lord Admiral who is gearing up for a tilt at this Friday's Grade One Citation Handicap over an extended mile which is worth $400,000.
The top American jockey Alex Solis is on standby to ride Lord Admiral who ran eighth in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Santa Anita on his previous start.
Hong Kong's International fixture in December has been good to Kevin Manning in the past and the jockey gears up for a possible return by riding at Lingfield today on board Eddie Lynam's Duff in a six-furlong Golden Rose Listed race. "We are taking a chance with the trip but Kevin says it is worth a try," Lynam said yesterday.
"I always thought he was a specialist seven furlong horse. But if six suits we are laughing."
The highlight of today's Gowran Park card is a competitive novice chase which sees some smart winners take on Robert Tyner's runner Footy Facts.
Testing conditions over this two and a half miles should suit Footy Facts whose opposition includes the Galway Hurdle winner Indian Pace.
