Galway were never really in threat in this tie against Laois at Kenny Park, Athenry, yesterday. Two late consolation goals for Laois helped make the scoreline more respectable. After a George Danne goal had given Laois an early lead, Galway went into overdrive between the 13th and 15th minutes with points from Ollie Fahy (2) and Rory Gantley. In the 24th minute, they hit a vital goal through Justin Campbell. By the interval Galway led by seven points 1-9 1-2.
The one-sided nature of the game quickly became evident in the second half as Eugene Cloonan proved a real thorn and in the 45th minute he had Galway's second goal.
Waterford - 1-14, Limerick - 1-12
A much depleted Limerick lost out to a fitter Waterford in the at Limerick yesterday. Waterford led by 0-4 to 0-1 after nine minutes, but a goal by Padraig Tobin after 15 minutes had Limerick on terms.
By half-time Waterford led 0-8 to 1-4, but the sides were level again after 39 minutes. However, Waterford finished the stronger and a goal by John Joe Royane gave them the points.
