ROWING:The World Coastal Rowing Championships for this year have been cancelled.

The event, in which clubs participate, was to be held in Rijeka in Croatia in October, but the hosts withdrew for financial reasons. Fisa, the world governing body for rowing, decided it was too late to reschedule.

Irish clubs have a good record at this event. In 2010 John Keohane of the Kilmacsimon club won gold in the single sculls title in Istanbul, and in 2009 Monika Dukarska of Killorglin won the women’s single. She had taken bronze in the previous year. In 2007, Killorglin’s women’s coxed four took bronze.

The 2013 World Coastal Championships will be held in Helsingborg, Sweden, in August.
