All the action from last night's matches
GROUP TWO: Turkey reached the World Cup play-offs when they beat Albania 1-0 yesterday to take second place behind Ukraine and finish ahead of Denmark and European champions Greece.
Metin Tuemer scored with a low shot after 57 minutes as Turkey dominated the second half of the game they had to win to ensure they finished second.
Any other result than victory would have sent Turkey crashing out as Greece beat Georgia 1-0, Dimitrios Papadopoulos scoring the winner in the 17th minute, and Denmark won 2-1 in Kazakhstan with Michael Gravgaard and Jon Dahl Tomasson getting the goals.
One consolation for Albania is that they have improved greatly and took 13 points from their 12 group matches, their best tally in World Cup or European Championship qualifiers.
GROUP THREE: Slovakia made it through to the play-offs on goal difference after holding Russia scoreless in Bratislava last night. The two sides finished level on points and head-to-head.
Group winners Portugal beat Latvia 3-0 in Oporto.
GROUP FIVE: Scotland beat Slovenia 3-0 to finish third in their qualifying group on Wednesday.
Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher put Scotland ahead in the fourth minute, James McFadden doubled the lead just after the half-time break and Paul Hartley added a third six minutes from the end.
Slovenia finished fourth in the group with 12 points, one point behind Scotland.
A late goal by striker Alberto Gilardino gave group winners Italy a 2-1 win over bottom-placed Moldova.
Striker Christian Vieri turned in a low cross to put Italy ahead in the 71st minute, but nine minutes later midfielder Alexandru Gatcan equalised with a long-range effort.
Second-placed Norway, who make the play-offs, beat Belarus 1-0 away.
GROUP SIX: Austria beat Northern Ireland 2-0 with a double strike by Rene Aufhauser last night in an ill-tempered qualifier marred by the visitors' rough challenges.
Neither side was still in the hunt for a place in Germany next year but that did not prevent tempers flaring as they finished with 10 men.
Damien Johnson and Austria's Emanuel Pogatetz were sent off in the 74th minute after a fierce challenge by the Irishman.
Wales winger Ryan Giggs struck twice to give his side a 2-0 win over Azerbaijan in Cardiff.
The Manchester United veteran, who scored the winner in the 3-2 victory over Northern Ireland on Saturday, curled in another delightful free-kick after only three minutes and he found the net again following a jinking run six minutes after the half-time interval.
GROUP EIGHT: Sweden eased through to the World Cup finals with a 3-1 home win over Iceland yesterday after recovering from a goal down midway through the first half.
The Swedes qualified as one of the two best runners-up after Croatia drew 0-0 in Hungary to top the group by virtue of a better head-to-head record against Sweden.
Iceland's Kari Arnason gave the visitors a shock lead in the 25th minute.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic equalised four minutes later, pouncing on a loose header out of defence.
He then set up Henrik Larsson for Sweden's second with a chip over the defence which the Barcelona player converted just before the break.
Sweden dominated the second half and substitute Kim Kallstrom scored their third goal in stoppage time.
