Lorcan Wyer was yesterday handed the mount on hot favourite Brother Of Iris in the Pertemps Great Yorkshire Chase at Doncaster on Saturday.

He has been chosen by Mary Reveley to take the place of sidelined stable-jockey Peter Niven and of Tony Dobbin, who deputised when the gelding won at Wetherby last time out.

Wyer had been set to go to Cheltenham on Saturday to ride Simply Dashing but has switched to Doncaster, on the understanding that Niven will get back on board the leading Tote Cheltenham Gold Cup hope when he is fit.

Meanwhile, Step On Eyre, who appeared to be coming back to form when second to Bobby Grant in a decent race at Haydock last time, should take today's showcase race at Wincanton.

At Huntingdon, Foundry Lane looks the pick in the March Handicap Chase. Horses from Mary Reveley's Saltburn base can do very little wrong at the moment and the nine-year-old should prove good enough.

Jim Leigh went out with a winner yesterday as he struck with the final runner of his 30-year training career. Rouge provided a perfect finale for the 65-year-old Irishman in the Mackerel Claiming Stakes at Lingfield.

Today's meeting at Wincanton is in doubt due to freezing weather. A second successive heavy frost is forecast for the track, and there will be an inspection early this morning.
