St Francis moved into the top half of the First Division after a deserved 1-0 defeat of Athlone Town in difficult conditions at Baldonnel yesterday. Recent signing Brendan Wynne got the only goal of the game when his 57th minute free-kick from 22 yards took a slight deflection before going into the top left-hand corner.
John Murphy scored one of the quickest penalties of the season as Cobh Ramblers continued their revival to end Limerick FC's eight-match unbeaten run at St Colman's Park on Saturday night.
Ramblers top-scorer Rory O'Connor was fouled inside the area by Frank Nolan and Murphy confidently drove home the penalty. Limerick equalised after 31 minutes when Nolan scored. Cobh remained the better side throughout the game and got their reward with a stunning winning goal from Rory O'Connor 10 minutes from time when he dribbled through from midfield, past two challenges, before shooting beyond Eddie Hickey in the Limerick goal.
