The Irish Basketball Association called off all National League fixtures for the weekend and a decision on the future of next weekend's schedule will be taken early next week. The Irish Colleges inter-varsity competition, scheduled for this weekend at NUI Maynooth, has also been cancelled, along with schools and inter-county fixtures.

Organisers of the Ballycotton 10- mile road race, due to take place on Sunday March 11th, have postponed the event until further notice.

The Irish Schools Cross Country championships, scheduled for March 10th in Carlow, have been cancelled.

The AAI national juvenile training squad sessions to be held in Dublin, Cork and Galway have also been called-off until further notice.

Special Olympics Ireland cancelled all of their National, regional and area competitions and meetings until further notice.

The Irish Surfing Association have postponed three national events - the national squad training and the student national surfing championships scheduled for the next two weekends have been postponed, and surf clubs have also been instructed to cancel all local contests until further notice.

Tomorrow's meeting of the association in Bundoran in order to debate Ireland's opportunity to host the World Surfing Games in 2004 has also been postponed.

The Wind Surfing Intervarsities Championship, due to be held at Valentia, has been called off.

The Irish Amateur Rowing Union yesterday announced the cancellation of the Erne head of the river tomorrow and also the Tribesmen head of the river in Galway on Sunday, March 18th. It is the first time in 52 years that the Galway event has been abandoned.

Swim Ireland have requested that all club competitions be postponed this weekend.
