The Greg Young Memorial Trophy was played over the famous Lahinch course last weekend with victory going to John D Smyth, a lifelong friend of Greg Young and his family. The competition was first played for in the club's centenary year in 1992 when it attracted over 150 of Ireland's best golfers and friends of Greg Young.
In the following years it was played as a club competition, until this year when it was changed again to a seniors event over 36 holes. Such has been the success of the event that it should become one of the major attractions on the golfing calendar in the coming years. John D won from Greg Young junior with Richard Pyne third. The nett went to Pat Chambers.
