Portmarnock failed to take advantage of the home draw when losing 3-2 to Co Louth in a exciting climax to the Bulmers Irish Senior Cup, Leinster Section, at Portmarnock on Sunday. With three internationals and two interprovincials in their side Portmarnock seemed to hold all the aces against a Co Louth side that was a mixture of experience, youth and very early youth.
Bryan Ronan gave them the perfect start, beating current international Adrian Morrow in the top match. Former international Barry Reddan who laid the foundations for Co Louth's march through Leinster, followed with a 2 and 1 win over David Kelleher.
Portmarnock got their first point when Dermot Snow, the Leinster interprovincial who is having a excellent season, was an easy 7 and 6 winner over Neil Crimmins. Co Louth's David Gannon (16) found Noel Fox a little too hot to handle, but another excellent young player, Garth Bohill, beat Niall Goulding 4 and 3 to secure the title for Co Louth for the first time since 1991.
