A 23-year-old man charged with dangerous driving causing the death of his parents and his three year old son in a single vehicle crash last year is to go on trial in the circuit court in Tipperary next year.
Thomas O’Reilly of Waller’s Lot in Cashel, Co Tipperary was last month charged with dangerous driving causing the death of his father, also named Thomas, his mother Bridget and his son Tom at Kingstown in Cashel on August 29th 2023.
The trio died after a car in which they were travelling hit a wall in the Windmill- Knockbulloge area of Cashel. A woman in her 20s was also injured in the single vehicle crash. She has since recovered.
Mr O’Reilly appeared before Cashel District Court again on Thursday. Judge Brian O’Shea was informed that a book of evidence had been served on the accused by gardaí.

Sgt Carol O’Leary told the court that the DPP had ruled that the case be dealt with on indictment before a judge and jury at circuit criminal court level.
Sgt O’Leary said that gardaí had no objection to bail once the accused gave a commitment not to drive while the case was pending. Mr O’Reilly, via his solicitor Colm Morrissey, gave that undertaking to the court.
Free legal aid was also extended to allow for the appointment of defence counsel for the upcoming trial. Free legal aid was previously granted after the court heard that Mr O’Reilly is in receipt of social welfare.
Judge O’Shea remanded Mr O’Reilly on bail on his own bond of €200 to appear before the next sessions of Tipperary Circuit Criminal Court on March 4th next.
