PLANS to build a £16 million housing project in Galway, the first of a major triple development on the Headford Road, have been approved by the corporation. But a local environmental group, Cairde na Gaillimhe, has appealed the decision to An Bord Pleanala on environmental and traffic grounds.

O'Malley Construction Ltd has been granted permission for 150 houses on part of a 30-acre Terryland site, while two other developers are to seek permission to build 184 houses and apartments nearby.
