Court appearance over Drogheda drugs find

Two men charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of selling or supplying to others

Two men appeared before a special sitting of Ardee district court today charged in relation to the seizure of cocaine in Drogheda on Saturday.

Paul O’Donoghue (38) from Marian Villas, Laytown, county Meath and Graham Tully (56) of Bessexswell Lane, Drogheda, county Louth are accused of possession of cocaine at Bessexswell Lane, Drogheda on Saturday, April 5th.

They are also accused of possession of the drug for the purpose of selling or supplying it to others.

A detective with the garda national drugs unit objected to bail for Paul O’Donoghue because of the serious nature of the alleged offence and he feared the accused was a flight risk. He said the accused is alleged to have been in possession of 1 kilo of cocaine with an estimated street value of €70,000.

The garda said the drug was found in the boot of a car the accused was sitting in and he said 4 kilos of a mixing agent were also found with the cocaine.

The accused said he was a father of three children and lived with his partner at the address in Laytown.

Judge Flann Brennan remanded both accused in custody to appear at Cloverhill district court next Friday.

Another man, with an address in Belfast, appeared before a special sitting of the court on Saturday. He too was remanded in custody.
