A man has gone on trial after pleading not guilty to murdering his baby son in Co Mayo five years ago.

John Tighe (40), of Lavallyroe, Ballyhaunis, was arraigned on Monday on a charge of murdering Joshua Tighe at his home on June 1st, 2013.

He replied “not guilty” to the charge.

His Central Criminal Court trial is due to begin on Monday afternoon.

Justice Patrick McCarthy told the jury of eight men and four women that the trial is likely to last for two weeks.
