Letters have been sent to the public by a fake solicitor claiming to operate from west Dublin, the Law Society has said.

In a statement on its website, the representative body for solicitors said it had been informed that members of the public had received letters in the name of a firm named Duke Solicitors or Duke Chambers, and from a purported solicitor named Steven Duke with an address in Lucan, Co Dublin.

“No such solicitors’ firm is registered with or regulated by the Law Society of Ireland and no such person has been admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in Ireland,” the society said.

It said that any information about or dealings with “Steven Duke”, “Duke Solicitors” or “Duke Chambers”, “particularly if it involves the payment of money”, should be reported to the Garda Síochána. Affected members of the public could also report the matter to the Law Society, it added.

Under the Solicitors Act 1954, it is an offence to pretend to be a solicitor.
