Six units of Dublin City Fire Brigade were at the scene of a major fire at a Dublin city restaurant on Friday night.
The alarm was raised at 7.35pm after the blaze broke out at the Kingfisher Restaurant on Parnell Street
A spokesman for the fire brigade said six units, a turntable ladder, an incident command unit, and two district officers are in attendance.
There were a number of people in the restaurant at the time but there were no injuries and nobody was taken to hospital.
“The people were being evacuated as we arrived,” said the spokesman. “Everyone was out before the fire took hold. They called us quickly enough once it started and had evacuation procedures in place.”
He said the basement was “well engulfed in flames” and that it is a “fairly intense fire”.
“The danger would be that it will spread so we are trying to quench it so it doesn’t come up through the whole building,” he said. “We need to stop it going sideways as well obviously.”
The fire brigade has made contact with key-holders for the buildings either side as officers are concerned the blaze may spread to adjoining premises.
While the cause of the fire will not be known until a forensic examination of the scene can be carried out, it is understood the kitchen of the restaurant is located in the basement.
