A group of Irish and US tourists in Zimbabwe had an unexpected guest at dinner as a bull elephant literally crashed the party. Video: Knockbaun

A group of Irish and US tourists had a lucky escape when they were attacked by a bull elephant on safari in Zimbabwe.

In a video uploaded to YouTube by user knockbaun over the weekend, tourists Stephen Montague and Shane Wolf are seen sitting at a table when the elephant approaches from behind them.

It keeps a distance at first, but then swipes between the two men with its tusks and trunk, knocking them from their chairs.

The animal retreats and at the end of the clip, one of the men pulls up his shirt to reveal where the elephant made contact with its tusk.

According to the uploader, the men were on a family safari holiday in Mana Pools, a wildlife conservation area in Zimbabwe, when the incident happened. They have since returned home.
