Sir, – In Ireland we love talking about the weather. All of the soundbites and euphemisms to describe its fickleness should have been aired by now. However, Totò Schillaci’s observance that “the sun finds it very difficult here” brings meteorological observations to a new level.
His comment was so passive and almost reverent, hilariously deflecting any sunless blame being put at our shores. He obviously did not wish to further damage the national consciousness, following that fateful Roman evening in the summer of 1990! May Totò rest in peace. – Yours, etc,
