Sir, – Emer McLysaght’s telling of the conventions of bingo had me laughing out loud (“My night at the bingo hall: I was waiting on one number. My heart was in my mouth”, People, January 17th).

My Aunt Vera, a devotee, brought me twice to play, and me a small child. No niceties then about underaged gambling. Maybe I was Vera’s mascot. I played on two consecutive weeks, each time winning £2. I vowed: no more. I had won but wouldn’t risk a third week in case my luck was out.

Vera was disappointed.
