Sir, – Máire Geoghegan-Quinn deserves credit for having introduced the legislation in 1993 to decriminalise homosexual acts and for shepherding it through the Oireachtas. But she had the opportunity of introducing a government Bill on the matter solely because the Labour Party had a commitment to legislate in its manifesto for the 1991 general election and Dick Spring and his team insisted that it be included in the programme for the Labour/Fianna Fáil government that was formed in early 1992. – Yours, etc,
NIALL GREENE,
Dublin 13.
