Sir, – Most commuters in the capital would agree that illegal parking in clearways and bus lanes is a major cause of congestion, and the scourge of every morning and evening commute. Dublin City Council should consider introducing rules that would allow “dashcam” footage of illegally parked cars and vans to be used as sufficient evidence of an offence. All Dublin Bus vehicles could then be fitted with “dashcams”, with the footage being used to identify the culprits. Fines should be set at a rate that indicates zero tolerance, with the owner, not the driver, of the vehicle made accountable. – Yours, etc,
DEIRDRE KING,
Dublin 11.
